The New Year is always associated with resolutions and changes. Tri-County Association for the Blind is no different. What is changing? We officially announce a new name…Vision Resources of Central Pennsylvania! Vision Resources resolves to continue our mission to support and promote the interests of people who are blind, visually impaired and otherwise disabled, and to provide blindness prevention services. The new name better reflects not only this mission, but also the growth in recent years into a 4th county. So after 93 years in operation, we are very excited to share our new name and look with those we serve.
Part of the mission of Vision Resources is to help raise awareness of eye diseases in an effort to prevent blindness. January is Glaucoma Awareness Month. Glaucoma is a group of eye diseases that gradually steals sight without warning and is currently the leading cause of blindness.
There is no cure for glaucoma and the loss of vision cannot be regained, however, with medication and/or surgery, it is possible to halt further loss of vision. Older people are at higher risk for the disease, but even infants can be born with glaucoma. With no warning signs, the first step to preserving vision is diagnosis. Routine examination from your family eye care specialist can detect increased eye pressure and loss of peripheral vision associated with Glaucoma.

Happy New Year and good luck with your resolutions for 2013!
